This is a very astute dissection of a societal problem. Our capacity for face-to-face conversations has been diminishing ever since the smartphone revolution, and Covid really exacerbated the trend. I think this contributes to depression as well as political polarization.

However, as an introvert, I’ve always preferred expressing my ideas in writing. I think the advantage to using email/text/slack is that we can communicate with more clarity and precision. I agree that it is vital to spend time verbally talking to friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc, but wonder if there may be an upside to our society now becoming better readers & writers? Just giving my thoughts
